Shoot Your Shot
Finding someone not on Ozempic is like trying to find a piece of hay in a needle stack. People are poking, prodding, puncturing, and piercing themselves for reasons ranging from high blood sugar to obesity. And a whole lot of us are taking a stab at it just … because. It’s gotten to the point that Lin-Manuel Miranda might have to tweak some of his most famous lyrics. I am not throwin’ away my shot. Ay, yo, I’m just like my country, I’m young, scrappy and not at all hungry, and I’m not throwin’ away my shot. “A large new study confirms what many people have long suspected: A sizable number of people taking drugs like Ozempic have no medical reason to do so.” Here’s the skinny from the NYT (Gift Article): GLP-1 Prescriptions for People With No Medical Need Are Climbing. “‘It’s the first time that I can recall that the general public knows so much’ about a drug, said Dr. Nils Krüger, a researcher at Harvard Medical School who has studied GLP-1s … These medications might pose unique risks to people who are not overweight … ‘We don’t know how this will play out. It’s like this big Ozempic experiment.'” That’s quite the parting shot.
